On the morning of May 30th, our dear friend, Kekoa Smith, survived a devastating shark attack at Cromwell’s Beach while doing what he loves most—being in the ocean.
If you know Koa, you know he is happiest outdoors. Whether he's surfing, skateboarding, building ramps, hiking, working with his hands, or spending time at the beach with his wife and two young children, he brings passion, energy, and kindness to everything he does. He is always the first to lend a hand and show up for others.
It is truly a miracle that Koa is still with us today. By the grace of God, the quick actions of three Good Samaritans who called 911 and stayed by his side, and the incredible first responders and medical team who cared for him, Koa survived.
While we are incredibly grateful he is expected to make a full recovery, he faces a long road ahead that includes surgeries, rehabilitation, a skin graft, and months of healing. During this time, Koa will be unable to work, and his wife will be taking time away from her job as a flight attendant to care for Koa and their children.
We are hoping to ease some of the financial burden on their family during this difficult time. Donations will help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, lost income, household expenses, and other unexpected costs as they focus on what matters most…Koa's recovery.
Anyone who knows Koa knows his strength, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. Now it's our turn to show up for him and his ʻohana.
If you're able to donate, share this page, or keep Koa and his family in your prayers, we are deeply grateful. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help support Koa on his road to recovery.
Mahalo for your prayers, love, and support.
