Support Keegan Blazak's Recovery Journey
Donation protected
Last week, Keegan Blazak was in a horrific car accident and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis. His second surgery was successful, and while we are so incredibly grateful that he is still with us, the road ahead will be long and challenging for Keegan and the whole Blazak family.
The Blazaks appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have already received, but the road ahead is long. We can lessen some of the financial stress ahead with our support - every little bit helps!
If you would like to support the family with meals, here is a link to sign up .
Latest Updates from Mallory
Thursday, October 10th: Keegan's days and nights are becoming a little mixed up. He required more attention from the nursing last night, his heart rate was a little bit high for our liking. So they drew labs and gave him some magnesium and calcium IV infusions. Heart rate has come down. Hoping things balance out. Last day for IV antibiotics. Trauma team this morning was pleased with everything despite the high heart rate. Friends from school are coming today and he is looking forward to that. Not sure of next steps yet, PT and OT again today. He ate some breakfast and enjoyed that. He is getting really good and transferring. Looking forward to the day.
Wednesday, October 9th: Today is kinda hard mentally on all of us just figuring out next steps. Keegan got a unit of blood through the night. Docs feel he should be stabilizing and hopefully won't need any more blood transfusions. Keegan will be able to get some sunshine today hopefully during physical therapy session. Keegs is experiencing some pain and discomfort and did not rest well last night. Praying today and tonight are easier for him.
Tuesday, October 8th: My brain is at the point where it’s trying to map things out and some times reliving Friday which I am renaming “our worst, but yet best day.” So sleep was broken but still restful. Keegan slept a lot of the night and was kept comfortable by the nurses with meds. He is sitting up this morning. Morning time is hard settling in with reality but necessary. Brian went home last night to be with Olive and the dogs and sleep in our bed. Grandma Ruth is manning the homestead while Grandpa Jeff flew back to Florida yesterday to prepare for the hurricane. Please pray for his safety. Nan (my mom) is returning tonight. Nan left yesterday evening to prepare for the work week and to bring some supplies back with her. Aunties are working and available if needed. Brian is sending me home tonight to sleep in our bed. Im not going to argue that. Now to the MVP: Keegan ate one egg bite and drank a little milk already. We are sipping coffee and getting ready for the prosthetic company to visit at 0815. He is lining up visitors of friends and mentors. His leg is sore but very manageable. He is asking to be wheeled around today to get out of the room and see a new space. I think Brian is considering strapping him to his back if he has too to make that happen. Keegan has his Switch to play games with his cousins, one of his favorite past times. I can’t believe the amount of support and love we are receiving, it’s overwhelming in wonderful way! We are so thankful for God’s gift of Keegan and for his gift of Community.
Monday, October 7th: We are doing the Griddy dance over here for the Gritti-Stokes amputation (the official name of the type of amputation Keegan received today). We are beyond happy with the results and Keegan's surgeon was pretty stoked ( see what we did there ? gritti-stokes, stoked...) with the outcome. He explained that this procedure has been around for a while but the opportunity to complete one is not often and that it's going to be the best outcome for our great guy! Keegan returned from surgery and ate some soup ,drank sprite , and a smoothie. Real soup too, not just broth! Keegan is being very patient with himself and us. He is learning to ride this emotional rollercoaster. Keegan has had good visits today with great people and is now resting before his favorite person in the world ( Olive)comes to see him! Sorry other visitors but you know it's true, two peas in a pod!We again are so thankful and are completely overwhelmed with the support and love from everyone. Please keep the prayers coming and know we are forever thankful. Keegan is still taking time with processing this situation as you can imagine, one thing we feel he sees clearly is the outpouring of love and support from everyone! He is understanding of the miracle he has received and we looking forward to the days to come to see how his story continues.
