Help Give These Horses a Second Chance!

I volunteer at Knickerbocker Creek Equine Rescue, and we desperately need your support. For a long time, I was the only volunteer, but now there are three of us working tirelessly to give these horses a better life. However, we are facing a significant financial challenge.

The rescue’s owner is living paycheck to paycheck just to keep feed in front of the horses, but there are so many other critical needs that we can’t afford. Please know that no one gets paid—every penny goes directly to the horses. We are a volunteer-only team working with limited resources to give these horses the care they desperately need.

We currently have five Off-The-Track Thoroughbreds (OTTB), one older Clydesdale cross mare, and one BLM Mustang who are all in need of essential veterinary care before we can even begin the process of finding them their forever homes.

Here’s a breakdown of what we urgently need:

• Veterinary care (vaccines, dental work, and worming) @ $3906

• Hoof care (farrier services) @ $1260 to get everybody shod/trimmed once

• Gelding for a 9-year-old stallion: This procedure is extremely expensive and is one of our biggest needs. The cost to geld this 9-year-old stallion alone is $2,300—a critical step in preparing him for adoption. That fee doesn't even include aftercare such as bedding for his stall or any medications that may be needed for pain etc. That is just the hard cost from UC Davis for the castration. I called many places trying to find it cheaper, most places wouldn't even give me a quote and if they did it was higher.

• Supplements for our older Clydesdale cross mare: She is currently not sound, but with the right joint supplements and ongoing maintenance, there’s hope she could regain her comfort and mobility, allowing her to have a chance at a better life. $$$ Varies $300-$600

In total, we need $8000 to get everyone up to date on their care. This is essential to ensure the horses are healthy and ready for their forever homes.

Every little bit helps—even $1 can make a difference. These horses have come a long way, from nearly dying to becoming healthy, happy, and full of potential. But we need your help to finish the job and get them the medical care they deserve. It would be a shame to come all this way and think that euthanization would be their end. With the exception of one, all these horses are under 10 years old.
