In April 2025, my husband Kayon was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, which devastated our entire family. Chemotherapy began the same month as his diagnosis and severely impacted his ability to continue working. Kayon is self-employed and does not have the benefits of long-term or short-term disability that most employers offer. During his bi-weekly chemotherapy treatments, the side effects leave him severely fatigued, which affects his ability to continue making money to care for his family.

Financial support would make a huge difference for Kayon and his family to pay for mounting medical bills and daily household expenses as he does his best to regain his energy and ultimately beat cancer. After a year of treatment and using savings to take care of daily expenses, Kayon is rarely able to work at this time due to ongoing doctor’s appointments and severe fatigue. As a result of chemotherapy, he’s now experiencing neuropathy, decreased appetite due to not having any taste buds, chronic fatigue and low energy which affects his ability to earn enough income. Kayon’s diagnosis has impacted his family emotionally and financially because he’s a proud man that has worked and earned an income for his family. Due to his inability to provide for his family as he normally does, he’s devastated.
