I’m creating this GoFundMe for my friend Kaylee because she would never ask for help herself. On Saturday night in downtown New Braunfels, Kaylee was the victim of a drive-by shooting. She was simply picking up a friend from the bars and walking back to her car when everything happened. They were walking past two individuals who were the intended targets when the shooting started, her friend ran one way while Kaylee ran in a different direction. Unfortunately, the targets ran in her same direction and that was when she was hit. Kaylee was shot in her lower back, just inches from her spine, and a bullet exited through her leg. She also suffered severe bruising to her knees from falling multiple times while trying to get away. It’s honestly hard to put into words how terrifying this was, and how lucky she is to still be here.

Kaylee works in the service industry, and with these injuries, she’s unable to work for the time being. On top of that, she doesn’t have health insurance, so everything from emergency care to recovery will have to be paid out of pocket. If I could take care of all of this for her, I would without hesitation. But since I can’t, I’m asking for help on her behalf.

Kaylee is one of the most genuinely kind and giving people I know. She’s always the first to show up for others, no questions asked. With her bright smile and perfectly timed silly jokes, she has a way of lifting up anyone who needs it. Now, she’s the one who needs that same love and support in return.
