Hi, my name is Brooke, and I am Kayla’s sister.
In March of 2025, my sister Kayla was diagnosed with POTS. Since then, life has been completely turned upside down for her and the family. Most recently, on Monday, she experienced a TIA (mini-stroke).
Kayla was at home doing her infusion for POTS when her left arm suddenly went completely numb. She felt an overwhelming heaviness, like 300 pounds on her chest, and every time she took a deep breath, it hurt and made her cough. She messaged her at-home nurse and was told to go to the ER immediately.
At the hospital, they ran several tests. They noticed her port was bloody and discovered on a CT scan that she has a 6mm pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM). Doctors believe a blood clot traveled through this malformation to her brain, which caused her TIA.
Kayla is now home resting but is on standby for surgery with a specialty interventional radiology (IR) surgeon. While she waits for surgery, she has been instructed not to work and to take things very easy, as her risk of having another stroke is extremely high.
Kayla and her husband have already missed a lot of work, and when she has surgery, she will be out for a while with a slow return afterward. With four boys and having moved to another state less than six months ago, bills are already piling up quickly.
We are asking for help to ease the financial burden so Kayla can focus on treatment and healing without the constant stress of how they will make ends meet. Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to our family. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser.
Thank you so much for your love, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
