Hi, I’m Kayla. I’m 39 years old, a proud Navy Chief with 19 years of service (and counting), wife to an amazing husband, and mom to two precious little girls, ages 2 and 3. My family is my world, and I’ve spent my life serving others—both my country and my loved ones. Today, I humbly ask for your help as I face a battle I never thought I’d fight again.

In 2019, I was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. With unwavering faith and strength, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy, chemotherapy, and by 2020, I was in remission. God’s grace carried me through, and He blessed us with two beautiful, healthy daughters shortly thereafter. In December 2024, I joyfully celebrated my 5-year “all clear.” But shortly after, my life changed dramatically.

What I thought was a workout injury turned out to be something far more serious: my cancer has returned and is now Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, spreading to my lymph nodes, spine, hip, and pelvis. While the news has been devastating, my faith remains steadfast. I know God is guiding me through this, and I am trusting Him for a complete healing.

This time, I feel led to pursue an integrative approach to my treatment, combining the best of conventional medicine with therapies to strengthen my immune system, fight cancer cells, and minimize side effects. I’ve been blessed with access to MD Anderson, the #1 cancer center in the country, a medical team here at Vanderbilt in Nashville, as well as an integrative oncologist in Franklin, TN. Together, these resources offer me the best chance to fight—and win—this battle.

However, integrative medicine isn’t covered by insurance, and the out-of-pocket costs are significant. For the first 12 weeks of treatment alone—the most crucial phase—the cost is $35,000. Additionally, we face travel expenses to MD Anderson, childcare costs when needed during treatment, and other unexpected needs. While I’m blessed to have military medical coverage for conventional treatments, I need help covering the integrative care that’s essential to my recovery.

I’ve never been one to ask for help, but I know this fight is bigger than me. I believe in miracles, and I’m trusting God to make a way. I’m asking for your prayers, encouragement, and, if you feel led, your financial support to ensure I’m here for the long haul.

My girls need their mommy. My husband needs his wife. And I have so much more life to live—watching my daughters grow up, creating memories with my family, and continuing to inspire others through my story.
