On Jan 12th, I took my grandmother, Kaye Stubbs, to a neurologist appointment. We were expecting information on a recent scan she had, but we never imagined we would be walking out heading straight to the ER for emergency life-saving surgery.
Doctors discovered a tumor the size of a ping-pong ball (3.4cm) in her cerebellum. It had already begun to press on her brain’s drainage system, affecting her walking and her cognitive health. We soon learned the devastating news that the cancer had started in her lung and traveled to her brain.
The Battle So Far
Kaye underwent a grueling brain surgery to remove the tumor. While the surgeons were able to remove the bulk of it, about 1.8cm of tumor tissue remains along the edges because it was too risky to remove without causing permanent damage.
But Kaye is a fighter. Since the surgery, we have seen miracles:
• She has been moved out of the ICU and into a recovery unit.
• Her head drain has been removed.
• She is showing her usual spirit, even as she faces the reality of not being able to walk right now and dealing with some confusion.
Why I Need Your Help
The road ahead is long and, frankly, overwhelming. We are currently waiting on pathology results and a treatment plan from the oncologist. Kaye will soon require intensive rehabilitation to regain her mobility, and her radiation treatments are set to begin in February to tackle the remaining tumor tissue. We are still waiting for more information regarding the mass in her lung.
I am doing everything I can to support her through this difficult time. As you can imagine, the costs of traveling back and forth from the hospital right now to be with her as much as i can. Meals, and so on .Then there will be traveling for her treatment, physical therapy, and covering all the extra medical needs it will all add up quickly. I want my grandma to be able to focus entirely on her recovery, without the added stress of worrying about how she’ll get to her appointments or pay for the care she needs. That’s why I’m reaching out for help—so Kaye can concentrate on healing and getting stronger every day.
Any donation, no matter how small, means the world to both of us. If you’re unable to give, please keep Kaye in your prayers and share this page with others. Your love, support, and kindness are deeply appreciated as we walk this road together.
