Hello! We are Kaya Students, a group of college students who intern at Kaya Press, an independent Asian-American publishing press in Los Angeles. We’re planning to attend a publishing and writing conference in March, and would like your support to help us attend the trip.
Four students, from USC and Cal State LA, are planning to attend the conference. Funds raised would help cover flight costs, conference attendance fees, and local transport.

The AWP (Association of Writers and Writing Programs) Conference in Portland, Oregon is an annual conference for writers, editors, and publishers. Past speakers at the conference have included Chimananda Ngozi Adichie, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Annie Proulx, among many other famous authors and literary figures. With over 12,000 attendees and 800 journals, publishing presses, and literary organizations represented, the AWP conference is the largest literary conference in North America.
Kaya Students would like to attend the conference from March 27 to March 30th, in order to gain valuable experience and insight into the writing and publishing industries. Students attending the conference will be able to better understand the processes authors, editors, and publishers work through together in order to create a finished work of literature. By helping fund Kaya Students’ trip to the conference, you are helping the next generation of writers, editors, publishers, and academics get to the heart of the literary world.
If you are interested in supporting Kaya Students, a gift of $10 or more can bring us closer to our goal, and to attending the AWP conference (though gifts of any amount are welcome).
Thank you for your support, and for contributing to the future of publishing!
P. S. We are happy to gift Kaya books and Kaya merch to donators of $50 and up (depending on availability).

Who are We?
Kaya Press is an independent publishing press based in Los Angeles, publishing books by and about the Asian diaspora. Kaya Press also has an internship for college students interested in publishing, editing, and writing. This intern group, Kaya Students, works closely with Kaya Press, and gives students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience with the processes behind publishing and promoting literature, as well as the to work closely with translators, authors, and editors.
Our Mission
Kaya Press aims to add more voices from minority communities to the the literary world. Many of the students involved with Kaya are from backgrounds not widely represented in editing and publishing, so Kaya Students provides a valuable opportunity to students from all walks of life to help underrepresented voices have their stories told.
The books published by Kaya Press center on the stories of the Asian and Pacific Islander diasporas, stories not often found in mainstream literature. Student interns at Kaya have assisted with the publishing process of a wide variety of books, from memoirs and coming-of-age novels to poetry collections and science fiction anthologies. Through Kaya, Kaya Students students have helped with book releases, talks with authors, and book promotions.
