Support Katrina's Urgent Relocation

Donation protected
Hi to whoever may come across this fundraiser!

This is our Mother, Katrina Wreggelsworth. If you've arrived here, you may be concerned about the status of our mother and her current situation. My brother's and I are eager to help ease the sudden suffering and panic she's been enduring the last few days, and all of us are hopeful you may be willing to help in any small way you can!

-(Screenshot of Katrina's Eviction Notice)

On Mother's Day our mother was given an eviction notice on her trailer (after she'd already paid her rent) with no warning, telling her she had 30 days to move out of her home in Oklahoma City, OK, dated 6 May 2024. While my brother, Jason (who just recently moved out) is in ownership of the trailer, they do not have ownership of the land, and there is no way she is able to stay. The new landlord of the trailer park communtiy has decided to evict all the grandfathered-in lots in exchange for new trailers, not offering any of those they are evicting a chance to stay, merely throwing them out on the street like unwanted dogs without explanation.

One of the main reasons our Mom stayed in her trailer home for so long (despite all the poor treatment and management from the landowners of the trailer park) has a large part to do with Finances. Back in 2018 she nearly died in hospital after contracting MRSA from a cat scratch, her undiagnosed (discovered while in hospital) diabetes creating complications. As one can imagine, hospital bills for extended stays in American hospitals cost well over thousands of dollars. The low rent she has staying in her trailer helped her pay more toward her medical costs, which allowed her peace of mind for a while, until Covid came in and the lasting complications from the MRSA made it to where it was safer for her to not work in order to protect her health. Of course, with how long the height of the pandemic lasted our Mother lost her job and had to spend a great deal of time at home relying on Jason, who at the time was the only one in the household working. She's only just returned to work at a new job within the last year.

Despite making the decision to stay in her trailer in an attempt to improve her lot, it was not without a great deal of suffering and sacrifice. She originally came to live there under a previous landowner in charge of the trailer park, moving to Oklahoma from Florida at the request of the owner to help improve the area and deal with the day to day managings. Then after a year she was let go without explanation, but being the hardworker she always has been she sought out another job to survive. New ownership came around the time of Covid (the current landlord of the park) and throughout their tenure they have ignored their current tenants in their pleas with regard to home repairs and basic care and management.

-(The state of our Mother's Bathroom at the height of the Sewage Leak)

One hideous example of what our mother is currently still dealing with is the remnants of a massive sewage leak. The leak travelled into her home, destroying the bathroom and floors. After several attempts to the landlord for help regarding the situation, calls were (and still have been) ignored. The landlord fixed the sewage leak from the vantage point of the land, but disregarded all their tenants and the damage their leak caused to the homes under its management. While our Mother has access to her bathroom, the damage left behind is extensive, and the floor has now deteriorated dramatically, and is unstable in several areas, which could be a danger should it cave and break through. Her having to live in these deplorable conditions for years, merely so she can survive enough to pay for the most basic of necessites angers all of us. And since 2022, the Landlord has been agressively raising the rent, raising it four times in less than a year and a half, which is predatory and money-grabbing behaviour. And when you consider how they've cared very little for the residents they do have and manage, it's hard to think otherwise.

The landlord even had her car towed a few months ago because it had broken down, and because of statute put in place by the landlord saying she could not fix her car on property (which was the plan due to poor finances) they robbed her of her ability to get to and from work and other places safely. She now spends over an hour walking to and from work each day, and has done for years now. And as her daughter (as well as a woman), I worry about our mom's safety each and every day.

She also is currently worried about having to cancel the health savings account she's only just started, merely to make the money she needs in order to find a small apartment for herself to call home, giving up her health needs in the process, which we deem completely unacceptable.

Now that she is being forced out of her home (which considering all she's had to suffer through these last few years is honestly a relief), she has devolved into a panic, and justifiably so. With no savings due to hospital bills and losses of income during Covid, she's worrying about the potential of becoming homeless in mere weeks.

Which is why my brothers and I are asking you to help us support her in any way you are able. We're looking to secure at the very minimum $5,000. Which would help with the bare minimums of securing a deposit and first months rent for a new apartment, as well as extra costs that are tied with moving.

Of course we would love to surpass that goal, to help offer her the security she's been without for so long, but at the end of the day we all want for her to feel safe and taken care off in this difficult moment. Our Mother is a fighter through-and through, and we want to lift the burdens she carries in any way we can.

Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser to any and all people you can think of, and help us keep our Mom from ending up homeless.

All funds received will be sent straight to Katrina to help her with this difficult time.

Thank you so much for you help,
-Ali, Jason, and Jonathan.
