Support Katrina's Battle Against Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, it's Kate, Katrina's Cotton's daughter. On behalf of the family, we would like to share a life update on Katrina:

Over the past few months, Katrina has been struggling with health issues that never seemed to get better and she was brushed off numerous times by different doctors until this year.

In May of this year (2024), Katrina underwent scans and biopsies which came back with a diagnosis of:

STAGE 1 OROPHARYNGEAL CANCER
  • This has started to spread to her lymph nodes as well

Life is moving both in slow motion and high speed as we all work to navigate the diagnosis and move forward in her treatment plan:
  • 7 Weeks of DAILY (5 days) Radiation
  • 7 Weeks of Chemo (once/week)
  • Physical Therapy
  • Additional Therapies (As she will have to learn to swallow, eat, and talk again.)

If you are reading this, our guess is that you are someone near and dear to Katrina in one of many ways, and we thank you for taking the time to read this.

Cancer is a word we hear too often, yet it never makes it easier, does it?

So, here we are, embarking on the journey of cancer with Mom. She is strong and resilient. She is an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and co-worker.

During this time, we are asking that everyone take a moment to send her some extra love and words of encouragement! She is up against a pretty intensive treatment plan that will be extremely uncomfortable as the cancer is in her throat and neck area. We have included more information on the website if you are curious (like we all are!) and want to understand more of the impact this will have on her life over the next few months.

What can we do to help?
This is a question that has been asked many times, and we were struggling to even process the diagnosis, let alone figure out how to ask others how to help or what is needed. With the assistance of Katrina's childhood best friends, we have been able to take the time to reset and figure out the plan, the treatment, and how others can help during this time.

Have time to join her at a treatment?
With two siblings out of state, one who just had a new baby, and one being a full-time student and mom, we would love to have help getting mom to treatments over the next several weeks. Our hope is to make sure Jim is able to continue working and not take too much time off of work as that will be their main income during this time.
