My best friend Katlynn is a previously healthy 29 year old that was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Never did she once think something like back pain would turn her world upside down. She endured 4 months of pain and 7 weeks of physical therapy with little relief. Katlynn was struggling to do simple everyday tasks like putting pants on, stepping in and out of the shower, or tying her shoes without having extreme back pain and spasms. She sought out an orthopedic doctor who ordered her an xray followed by an MRI the day after Christmas. The radiologist instructed her to immediately go to the Emergency Room to have the results discussed with her. Once seen in the ER, she was told she had fractured her L4 (lumbar vertebrae) and it was compressing her spinal cord, and had multiple cancerous lesions found along her spine. She was scheduled to have surgery on Monday December 29th. All weekend she underwent extensive imaging and procedures. CT scans, MRIs, a bone biopsy, and a lumbar puncture. Lesions were found in her breast, pelvis, spine, and lung. The biopsy was sent to pathology and came back positive for breast cancer. The surgery went as well as it could’ve, so we’ll take that win. After spending 5 days in the hospital, Katlynn was discharged home with a list of appointments to attend in the outpatient setting including oncology, neuro-oncology, genetics, fertility, and physical therapy.
In the blink of an eye, Katlynn and her loving husband, Anthony, had their lives completely altered. Married for two years, they have been dreaming of starting a family one day. Katlynn is currently out of work while recovering from surgery and attending daily medical appointments, and Anthony is taking whatever time he needs away from work to support his wife.
Katlynn is genuine, funny, an amazing friend and a kind soul. As her best friend, I am reaching out to ask for your prayers, donations, and support as Katlynn and Anthony face this life altering diagnosis. This fund has been created to help ease the financial burden that comes with long-term cancer care—medical bills, treatments, medications, travel to appointments, and daily living expenses. Every donation, share, and message of support helps Katlynn focus on what matters most: her health and her fight. Thank you for standing with us and supporting Katlynn on her journey.
