Support Kati's Fight Against Rare Cancer

My name is Lori and I'm a nurse at St. Charles hospital. In my nearly 17 years of working at the hospital, I've worked with so many amazing people. One of my favorite nurses to work with need some help.

Kati McWhortor, Kati is such a remarkable person that I will struggle to accurately portrait her with words. She is one of the funniest and cleverest people I've had the pleasure of knowing. Kati is the person at work that shows up and can light up the place. Her patients love her and she's incredible talented. She's a fantastic teacher to students and other nurses. She has the ability to put people at ease with her humor and compassion. Kati and her wife Leslie have an eleven-year-old daughter Devlin.

In early December Kati was taken to the urgent care for urinary issues, at that time they found a very large fibroid in her uterus that was causing the issue. She was place on the surgery schedule and several weeks later had her uterus removed. Everything went fine until the pathology reports came back. They found an extremely rare and aggressive cancer was in her fibroid. This required a full body scan for other possible places the cancer could have traveled to. They did find 3 spots in her lungs that were too small to biopsy, but they would continue to monitor. She then had to have a second abdominal surgery to look for other places the cancer could have been. This surgery was done in Seattle as they are the closest place that specialize in this type of cancer. After her second surgery and many appointments she is running extremely low on leave time.

The funds raised will go to help support Kati and her family as Kati takes this next step in treatment. She will be receiving multiple types of chemotherapy to help treat the cancer, possibly in Seattle.
