Support Katie's Recovery from Medical Crisis

Donation protected
You all are amazing! I am so grateful you helped propel me to -and PAST!- my goal! You have enabled me to go to Mayo Clinic easily (there right now!), and I have already paid off some bills. I hope none of you are ever in a position like this, but without that, I have no idea how I can ever repay the generosity! I will be sunsetting this fundraiser, but you are welcome to reach out to me directly if you have questions or would still like to donate.

If you find you're still in the giving mood, I know several other folks who could use some help (all friends, all good people, none deserving of the thing that have happened to them). Links follow, and I'd love to have you donate to them as well.

Thank you all, again, SO MUCH.

Hi everyone,

Reaching out for help is something I never imagined I'd have to do, nor find easy to do. However, after an unexpected and severe health crisis, I find myself needing support.

Backstory:
Last summer, I was unexpectedly hospitalized due to a violent allergic reaction to medication prescribed for a persistent minor illness. This reaction led to a series of life-threatening complications, including Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) syndrome and Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES). These conditions caused severe symptoms, including a full-body rash, dangerously swollen lymph nodes, blood clots in my lungs, and massive seizures. I was sedated, intubated, and transported to the University of Utah for specialized care. All told, I spent 18 days in the hospital, seven of which I was unconscious.

Thankfully, my partner was by my side throughout this ordeal, traveling with me and making crucial medical decisions. Despite my robust insurance, the costs associated with my hospitalization, follow-up specialist visits, emergency housing for my partner, and an upcoming referral to the Mayo Clinic have become overwhelming.

Our Current Situation:
During my hospitalization, we also faced the sudden sale of our rental home. This forced us to expedite our plans to buy a house in Bozeman, MT, where the housing market is notoriously expensive. We managed to move into a new home in late February, but the financial strain from medical bills and a new mortgage is daunting.

Despite my desire to work additional jobs or side hustles to alleviate some of this burden, my health does not currently allow it. I'm reaching out for assistance to cover my existing medical bills, replenish the savings used for my partner's travel and housing, and prepare for the costs associated with my Mayo Clinic visits.

How You Can Help:
Your support, whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign, would help immensely. Every contribution will go towards paying off medical bills, covering travel costs, and ensuring I can focus on my recovery without the constant stress of financial strain.

I deeply appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for your consideration. Please, only contribute if you are able and take care of yourselves.

Warm regards,
Katie
