Support Katie's Recovery After Hit-and-Run Accident

Donation protected
Hello, everyone! Crystal here. I have put this fundraiser together on behalf of my sister Katie.

On Saturday, July 27, 2025 Katie was involved in a hit-and-run collision as she was heading forward through a large intersection. Another driver made a left turn without yielding, pushing her through the intersection into another car. The resulting injury from the collision is a right tibial plateau fracture. In non-medical speak, the top of the large bone of her lower leg has large, vertical crack running through it from impacting the dash and/or console in her car. In order to stabilize her whole leg, preserve mobility, and minimize the risk of developing arthritis long term, Katie required surgery to place a plate and screws in the bone the morning after the accident, July 28th.

Now that the surgery is complete and she has been released from the hospital, Katie's recovery process is just beginning. She will be required to remain non-weight bearing on the injured leg for at least the next three months. She will be unable to work as a massage therapist throughout this time. Additionally, because the accident was a hit and run, recovering financial losses from the inability to work, the total loss of her vehicle with liability coverage, and significant medical expenses while uninsured are not guaranteed at this time. All of these factors contribute to significant financial injury which are going to be difficult for Katie to recover from without assistance.

I have put together some estimates for how much things will cost over the next few months. This list includes Katie’s basic monthly expenses for mortgage, utilities, and other bills, physical therapy, medication, and miscellaneous equipment she requires to make her home accessible.

Basic monthly expenses:
$2000/month x 4 months= $8000
I have calculated the basic monthly for four months as she will be non-weight bearing for a minimum of three, and may not be able to return to the physical work of massage for longer.

Miscellaneous Medical equipment, home accessories, and medications:
In order to make Katie’s house accessible, she has had to purchase a wheelchair and a ramp so she may get into and out of her home safely. She has also had to purchase wound care supplies, medications, and bathroom accessories to go on the first floor of her home.
She has spent around $1000 so far on those items, some of which were purchased second hand.

Physical therapy:
The actual cost of PT is as yet undetermined. Katie will be receiving some financial aid from the hospital system, but will not have the details of award for at least another month. I have done some estimates by looking at averages for billing in the central Ohio area without insurance. $125/hour is the average for in-home physical therapy, which will be required multiple times a week for at least the next four months. I have cut the base price in half, in anticipation of the financial aid supplement.
~$62.50/session x 3x/week x16 weeks= $3000

Estimated Total:
~$12,000

I have the goal for $15,000 total. This would provide a buffer for anything that might come up along the way, and anything that is left beyond the estimated $12,000 would go toward putting a down payment on a new car once she is able to drive again.

Any monetary offering, no matter the amount, or action to share this fundraiser is greatly appreciated. Every bit makes a difference to ensuring that Katie can focus on her physical health and recovery to ensure the best possible outcomes long term. Thank you so much for your consideration!
