Update as of 1/23/2025:
Katie is finally home after spending over a month in the hospital, including two surgeries and countless challenges along the way. She now has a nurse visiting daily to provide wound care and monitor her recovery. While we’re relieved she’s home, Katie still has a long road ahead to regain her strength and health.
Your generosity and support have been a lifeline during this incredibly difficult time, and we’re so grateful for the continued kindness. Every donation and share has helped Katie take one step closer to getting back on her feet. Thank you for standing by her!

Update as of 12/5: We wanted to share an update on Katie. Last night, she underwent a second surgery to address another twist in her intestines and to remove a significant amount of scar tissue caused by the initial operation. This was a necessary step to give her the best chance at recovery, but it also means her hospital stay will continue for the foreseeable future.
Katie has now been in the hospital for over 2 weeks since she was readmitted. While the surgery went as planned (and we are hopeful no further complications), she still has a very long road ahead of her to heal, rebuild her strength, and get back to living the life she loves.
The love and support from all of you have been a constant source of strength for Katie and our family. Your donations and shares have made an incredible difference, and we are so deeply grateful. As we continue this fight alongside Katie, we kindly ask for your continued support—whether it’s through a donation or by continuing to share her story with others.
Thank you for being there for Katie in this difficult time. Your kindness and generosity are helping her get through this one step at a time!!!

Hello! Support Katie’s Recovery and Return to Fitness
Katie recently faced a major health challenge that has completely disrupted her life and career. After being diagnosed with Cecal Volvulus—a condition where the large intestine twists—she underwent emergency surgery to remove a significant portion of her colon. She spent over two weeks in the hospital recovering, only to face complications, including an infection, which required her to be readmitted and remain in the hospital.
Unfortunately last week, doctors discovered another twist in her intestines. They are monitoring her condition closely, hoping to avoid a second surgery. She hasn’t been able to eat in over nine days and has lost a significant amount of weight and strength.
Katie had just achieved a milestone in her career, landing her dream job as a personal trainer at Pittsburgh Fitness Project. However, her recovery will take time, and she’ll need to rebuild her strength and body before she can return to work and resume her career.
We’re starting this fund to help Katie manage her medical bills and provide some financial stability as she focuses on her long road to recovery. She’s facing over 20 days (and counting) in the hospital so far, with additional challenges ahead.
Any support you can offer, whether through a donation or by sharing this page, will make a difference as Katie works to regain her health and get back on her feet. Thank you for your help!
Katie shared her thoughts on gratitude in a blog for her company before her complications arose—you can read it here: A Painful Twist on Gratitude - https://www.pittsburghfitnessproject.com/blog-1/a-painful-twist-on-gratitude
