My strong, independent, sober, God fearing sister is in need of help. As most of you know, some may not, Katie is a stage 4 cancer survivor. Katie had a seizure at work in 2015 that led the doctors to find a brain tumor and melanoma. She had several seizures in the following years but came through it beating it and stunning every doctor she ever came in contact with. They never did find the origin of the melanoma

Now let me fast forward to Monday. Katies roommate called me and said Katie is acting disoriented and she thinks I should come check her out. When I got to her she was coherent but confused. I immediately went into caregiver mode and told her we should probably call an ambulance because she is not acting like herself. She didn't want me to do that so I told her we will just go to my house. She agreed and started to just walk out. If anyone knows Katie, she doesn't leave the house without certain items. This is when I knew I had to take her to the ER.

We got there and gave them her history all while she was still confused and they started running test. Katie was still able to follow all commands and directions. The first test came back and said she had pneumonia and was septic. They immediately called an ambulance to transport her to the main hospital here in Port st Lucie. They have run multiple test and believe she initially had a seizure. Her heart was working overtime and with this confusion it made her agitated (to put it nicely) and she had to be sedated and put on a ventilator to help her relax and help her organs get better which is where she is now also leaving her with what they said was a "small heart attack" The doctors also think her thyroid is what set off her organs not functioning properly and working overtime..She is not out of the woods yet and will be out of work for some time, if not permanently. She also didn't have her insurance through her job yet so she is also going through this with the medical bills piling up

Again, if you know Katie, she is VERY independent and will probably be upset with me for starting this, but as her sister I know she is going to need all the help she can get. Please help support Katie while she is fighting for her life. Any amount will help! I will keep everyone updated through here as I find out. And Pray, pray, pray! Katie has a strong faith and we as a family BELIEVE in the power of prayer!!!

"Thyroid storm" is the root cause of everything happening. Please keep the prayers coming. She is still critical and will need every bit of support you all are showing. Thank you for supporting my sister through this. I could never truly show my appreciation ❣

UPDATE 1-22-2025

Katie is off the ventilator, awake, and aware! Praise God!! I truly believe the power of prayer did this. Please continue to pray and if you can donate. We still have a long road to recovery but she has started it. Thank you, thank you ALL!!!
