My name is Lana, and I am reaching out with a humble heart to ask for support for my daughter, Katie, and my son-in-law, Justin, as they face an overwhelming and ongoing medical journey.

Katie was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at just 17 years old. Over the years, complications from this disease have required her to undergo two bowel resections, ultimately leading to short bowel syndrome. This condition severely limits her body’s ability to absorb nutrients and electrolytes, requiring regular infusion treatments simply to maintain balance and function.

In October, Katie was diagnosed with Gastroparesis, with 85% of her stomach paralyzed. This devastating diagnosis has made it nearly impossible for her to eat or keep food down, resulting in severe malnutrition. Since August 30, 2025, she has experienced multiple hospital admissions as doctors work to stabilize her condition and prevent further complications.

In November, a PICC line was placed so Katie could receive TPN (IV nutrition); however, she developed a painful skin infection due to an allergic reaction to the adhesives used to secure the line. On December 12, she had a GJ feeding tube placed in hopes of finally reaching a sustainable feeding rate and improving her nutrition.

Throughout this journey, the Guessford family has been emotionally, physically, and financially exhausted. Insurance does not cover many of the essential medical supplies, equipment, and ongoing care required to manage Katie’s complex conditions. She has multiple doctor appointments each week, frequent lab draws, and ongoing needs to maintain her feeding tube and infusion therapy. Justin has been doing everything he can—working, caring for their children, and supporting Katie—while also navigating constant medical emergencies, hospital stays, and appointments.

The financial burden continues to grow, even as their focus remains solely on keeping Katie stable, nourished, and safe. Any contribution, no matter the size, would help ease the strain of medical expenses and allow this family to focus on healing rather than finances.
