Hello my name is Katie Torguson. On October 15, 2022, my life took a devastating turn. I was involved in a head-on collision with a drunk driver on the 240 Highway in Washington State. This impaired driver had driven up the wrong direction of the off ramp in the direction I was headed to make it home and our cars met at highway speeds of around 60MPH. The impact was so severe that our cars spun, appearing as though my vehicle was facing the incorrect direction. Despite several witnesses confirming my innocence, I was wrongfully accused by the police, leading to a slanderous narrative that has deeply affected my life, and my mental health.
I spent several weeks in ICU, as well as nearly two months in the hospital, endured over a dozen surgeries, and tragically lost my right leg. After years of fighting to clear my name, I finally achieved a breakthrough in February 2025. Investigation followed that I was in fact not the driver headed the incorrect direction. However, this battle for justice is far from over. I am now seeking help to cover legal fees for a lawyer who can assist me in holding those responsible accountable for the incorrect narrative I have faced.
The costs associated with prosthetic equipment and ongoing medical journey have been overwhelming. My injuries all together make it incredibly difficult for me to work full-time, and I find myself buried under a mountain of medical bills and legal expenses.
As I navigate this challenging journey, I am also preparing for a new chapter in my life. I am expecting my first son in July, which is a blessing to be a mother, and I am trying to prepare for the financial changes that it takes to raise a child. This GoFundMe is not only a way to seek assistance but also a platform to share my story and raise awareness about the reality of living with a disability after being an able-bodied person.
Asking for help is not easy for me, but I am doing this for my future family and the justice I deserve. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in my life and my family's future. I am more than willing to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you so much for your support.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Katie
