Support Katie Rose & family thru cancer recovery

Donation protected
In February 2023 at the age of 35, Katie Rose was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer. Following complications, Katie Rose was hospitalized at Royal Jubilee for 5 weeks to receive round the clock care and begin chemotherapy. Katie's partner, Owen, and 4-yo daughter Micky visited as often as possible, making the two-hour return trip from Sooke almost daily. Micky is very pleased to have her mama home again, but Katie's ongoing treatment and recovery will continue to be a fight for the whole family. With help from family and friends, Owen has made adjustments to their home to allow Katie - who is currently very weak and reliant on a wheelchair - to move comfortably and safely through the house.

Owen has been on leave since January so that he can be at home to support and care for both Katie Rose and Micky. He will return to work as soon as possible but for now he still needs to be home with his family each day. Katie will continue chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other treatment regimens indefinitely, which requires them to routinely travel around an hour each way into Victoria for appointments and care. They are currently relying on insurance and savings to cover basic expenses but, with Owen on leave, their single source of family income is currently and indefinitely suspended. In addition to their everyday costs as a young family, they are carrying expenses for various medical equipment and medications to treat complications and symptoms arising from the cancer and to keep Katie as comfortable as possible at home. Owen and Katie are very thankful for the amazing level of care and coverage provided by the BC Cancer Agency, but not everything is covered. They are also doing everything they can to maintain a sense of normalcy and stability for Micky during this extremely difficult time.

For those of you who know Katie Rose and Owen, you know that they very rarely ask for help and yet they are the first to offer it to friends and family. We, their extended friends and family, hope to alleviate the additional stress caused by financial instability by inviting you to donate, if you can, to contribute to their basic living expenses and Katie Rose's ongoing care.
