Our family is creating this fundraiser on behalf of our sister, daughter, and life-partner, Katie, as she faces a serious and life-altering health journey.

Earlier this year, Katie was diagnosed with aggressive head and neck cancer. Since then, she has been undergoing intensive treatment, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, with major surgery and radiation ahead followed by a significant recovery period.

Katie has met this process with remarkable steadiness and strength. She is someone who has always dedicated her life to caring for others - her friends, family, students, clients, animals and her community. Her work in the fields of social work, therapeutic/adaptive horseback riding, non-profits, and animal husbandry reflects a deep commitment to helping others feel supported, capable, and understood.

As a self-employed business owner, Katie’s ability to work and maintain her income has been significantly impacted by treatment. The demands of ongoing care, along with the expected recovery period, mean she will likely be unable to work at her normal capacity for the next 9-12 months.

Like many facing cancer, the financial impact extends far beyond medical care. While insurance covers part of treatment, daily life continues - housing, utilities, food, transportation, insurance premiums, and the ongoing care of her animals remain constant while she focuses on healing.

This fundraiser is intended to ease the financial burden so Katie can focus her energy on recovery rather than financial stress. Funds raised will go toward essential living expenses, treatment-related costs, and bridging the gap created by lost income during this time.

Asking for help is not something that comes easily to Katie or to our family. We are deeply grateful for the community around her and the many people who have asked how they can support her during this time.
