Support Katie and her fight with Epilepsy
Donation protected
Friends, family, and those who are looking to help donate, we have set up this donation link in order to help Katie and her husband pay her medical expenses.
For those who do not know Katie, she was diagnosed with epilepsy in her teens. She has since gotten not only her Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography with vascular, abdominal, and OBGYN registries and a Master’s Degree in Health Science. Her and her husband, Chris, have three young boys Blaine, 14 Booker, 10 and Benson, 7. On top of already dealing with the struggles Katie’s epilepsy brings, she and her husband Chris have two autistic children, one of which is nonverbal. Katie worked previously as a vascular technologist, but has recently had to go on disability as she continually had to be sent home from work due to having seizures while on the job. This has caused the family to go from a two-person income family down to one making it extremely hard for them to pay the piling medical bills they are receiving. In addition, Chris currently works an hour away from their home and oftentimes has to miss work in order to care for Katie and the kids.
While struggling with epilepsy, Katie has been placed on many different seizure medications and had a vagus nerve stimulator placed two years ago. Unfortunately, the doctors in the Illinois area cannot find a way to combat what has now become daily seizures, leaving her unable to work and help care for her three sons. As a family we have done a lot of research and are looking to send her for treatment at Mayo Clinic where they specialize in epilepsy treatment and can give her the extensive care she needs.
As of Tuesday, Katie was taken to a hospital in Springfield, Illinois. When she was first brought in doctor's found that she was unresponsive. The doctors are currently running many tests including CT scans, EEGs, MRIs, and multiple bloodwork panels in order to determine a course of action.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Katie and her story. Any amount is greatly appreciated and all funds will go towards paying Katie’s medical bills, travel expenses to Mayo Clinic, and their family.
UPDATE 01/25: From Katie’s husband and mother
We finally have what has been going on with her the last week. She was put on a new seizure medicine that she had a horrible reaction to they diagnosed her with encephalopathy which is damage or disease of the brain. Things are very serious right now this is why we need to get her the medical treatment. Please help if you can and if not please continue praying she was unresponsive again this morning we need God’s healing through out her body.
UPDATE: 01/26
As of today, Katie is up and talking. Her bloodwork came back good this morning and Nuero NP got her up in the chair and is cutting her kepra down to 2000 twice a day instead of 2500. However, she is still unable to walk or type as of right now. Please continue to keep Katie in your prayers.
UPDATE 01/27
Thank you all again for your prayers and donations. Katie is home from the hospital. She has a long way to go and is still struggling to walk on her own, but definitely trending in the right direction. We are hoping to hear from Mayo Clinic sometime next week.
UPDATE 01/29
Katie is currently on the waitlist at Mayo Clinic, which is currently 3 months with no guarantee. They suggested Katie continue current treatment. Her neurologist in Decatur is putting in an emergency referral to Barnes tomorrow.
UPDATE 02/09:
We wanted to share an update on the status of Katie. She is still recovering from her hospital stay and is getting better from that. She does have a deficiency on her left side. If it doesn’t get any better they will do an MRI. She finally received a call from Barnes and has an appointment on February 26
Praise Jesus . Continue praying she gets into the right specialist that will finally help her condition. She did find out yesterday she no longer has a job. She was denied FMLA due to her calling off of work because of her seizures. She did not have the required hours to protect her job. We will go forward to applying for SSI but that can take up to 2 years to get. We just ask our family and friends to continue to pray for her health, the doctors, and finances. Again thank you everyone for your support.❤️
