KATHY AND HER FAMILY ARE IN NEED OF HELP AND SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY!
David and Kathy have been married for 39 years, we have two (2) children, son Dustin Logston (Chelsea) and daughter Kylie Logsdon (Cody Potts), three (3) grandchildren Ensley, Owen and Devin. Both Kylie and Dustin have had heart transplants, Kylie in 2010 and Dustin in 2023. Kathy works at Tara Spa Therapy for 24 years and now has to leave soon as ALS is taking my ability to work.
Kathy's problems started in mid-February with left knee weakness that went on to affect my whole left leg. She went to primary care doctor and two (2) orthopedic doctors and pain management. By April, she was using a walker to walk and by the end of April had to use a wheelchair as she had lost all use of left leg and foot. Kathy went to St. Francis ER in Peoria the first part of May was admitted for five (5) days, had four (4) MRI's, a CT scan, PET scan, several blood test and was discharged with no diagnosis or treatment plan. Kathy had an EMG on June 18th and Dr. suggest she go to Iowa City ER from which was admitted. After a spinal tap and several blood test and another very extensive EMG, Kathy was diagnosed with ASL also called Lou Gehrig's Disease. She has lost all use of my left leg and pretty much all use of right leg. She is now completely unable to stand and must use a wheelchair full time. She has lost significant strength in the use of left arm and starting to lose strength in right arm.
We are in the process of having a wheelchair made specifically for my needs but that also requires a vehicle that has been modified for a wheelchair.
ALS is a very ugly disease for which there is no cure. There are medications to hopefully help slow the progression of the disease but there are no guarantees, and insurance has denied the one medication. The doctor has appealed but they are upholding the denial so still trying to fight their decision for my life. Any donation is not too big or small.
Thank you!
