I’m reaching out with a deeply personal request for help supporting two people who mean everything to me—my mom, Kathy, and my stepdad, Jon.

Over the past few years, I’ve watched both of their physical and mental health steadily decline. It’s been incredibly difficult to see them struggle, especially from a distance. For the last year and a half, they’ve been living in a private assisted living facility in Virginia. While the care has been important, the cost has become unsustainable, and they can no longer afford to stay there.

Like so many families, we’ve found ourselves caught in a painful gap—where they earn just slightly too much to qualify for Medicaid, yet nowhere near enough to afford private care long-term. Their savings are limited, and continuing on their current path simply isn’t possible.

Our hope is to move them to Libby Bortz Assisted Living in Littleton, Colorado, a nonprofit community that offers a more affordable and supportive option. This move would mean so much more than financial stability—it would bring them closer to me and my family, including their grandchildren, Zoe and Cole. Being nearby will allow me to be actively involved in their care, advocate for their needs, and simply spend meaningful time together during this stage of their lives.

However, the cost of making this transition is overwhelming. Between airfare, medical transport, furniture, legal fees, deposits, medication support, and all the logistics involved in relocating two people with complex needs, the expenses add up quickly. These are costs my mom and Jon cannot cover without draining what little savings they have left—funds they will need to pay rent and sustain their care moving forward. Covering everything myself would also place a significant financial strain on my household.

That’s why I’m asking for help.

My goal is to raise between $4,000 and $6,000 to support this transition and give them a stable, safe start in Colorado without putting them—or my family—into financial hardship. Every contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward helping them make this move and begin this next chapter with dignity and support.
