Support Kathy: A Caregiver's Journey

This is Cassie and Kelly. We are raising funds for my sister Kathy.

Her husband, Shawn, was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer 26 months ago. Kathy and Shawn spent 21 months, multiple rounds of chemo, and radiation fighting his cancer. In December, they received the news that he had developed brain mets. Shawn chose to stop fighting and go on hospice at that time.

Kathy was working at Whataburger at that time and continued working overnights there so she could take care of Shawn during the day until mid-March.

In mid-March, Shawn started deteriorating, and Kathy took a leave of absence so she could take care of him full-time. By mid-April, Shawn was bed-bound and required full-time assistance. Kathy was his full-time caregiver. She had promised him she would do whatever it took to make sure he passed at home and not in a hospital or hospice facility.

On April 28th, Whataburger fired Kathy because she could not come back to work, which ended all of their health benefits and also canceled the life insurance she had for him.

Shawn passed away on May 8th with Kathy right by his side. He was 46. She is 37.

Now Kathy is left with no job, no life insurance, and Shawn's disability is gone.

We are just trying to raise $3,000 to cover next month's bills so that Kathy can find a job.
