Support Kathryn’s Battle Against Cervical Cancer

My coworker Matt King’s wife has recently been diagnosed with advanced squamous cell carcinoma, specifically cervical cancer. This devastating news has rocked their world and left them grappling with fear and uncertainty about what the future holds. The cancer has progressed to at least stage 3B, with a large, fast-growing tumor pressing against her bladder and kidneys. This has led to complications, with one kidney shrinking as a result. While they await the results of a PET/CT scan to confirm the extent of the cancer's spread, doctors have recommended aggressive treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. The recommended treatment regimen is daunting, with potential for 2-5 days of radiation per week, weekly chemotherapy sessions, and the addition of immunotherapy depending on how Kathryn’s body responds. The financial strain of battling cancer is immense, especially considering their current circumstances. As the sole provider for their family of three, with a 10-year-old daughter to care for, the company Matt has worked for over a decade is closing. With no family nearby to lend a hand, the burden feels overwhelming. To make matters worse, the maximum unemployment benefits in Alabama fall far short of covering our monthly expenses, leaving us in a precarious financial situation. Their monthly bills, including medical expenses, amount to $2100, not to mention the cost of necessities such as food and gas. They have applied for emergency cancer medical insurance, but there's uncertainty about when or if it will be approved. The road ahead is uncertain, but one thing is clear: they cannot face it alone.
