I'm Kathleen and I've been disabled for over 20 years with a chronic illness. Before I became disabled I was a more-than-full-time worker, a part-time University student (Senior Anthropology major), & an activist for many progressive causes (mostly for human rights, civil rights, & environmental causes). Being sick & disabled has been challenging to say the least. I lost my home of 13 years & my housing assistance after the COVID shutdown, when the price of properties & rentals jumped up through the roof while I was extremely sick, along with many other disabled people dependent on housing assistance. I was lucky enough to find a room for me & my 2 cats, until I was recently forced to move again for the family to take in other family members who are also disabled & became homeless. My kitties & I are currently staying in an unfinished camp structure in the woods of Maine, which is not livable in winter. My small disability check isn't covering survival & basic bills (Veterinary bills for cats, Automotive bills for car, & Storage unit for my valuables), much less the cost of moving South for the winter, so I don't freeze. I'm currently working on finding Foster/Adoption homes for my cats, so they won't suffer with me. I know a wonderful family who can provide a stable loving home for 1 of my cats, BUT my kitty has some health challenges that they can't afford. If I can pay down my Care Credit card to cover any Veterinary care my cats need, it will be easier to place them in stable, warm, loving homes with people I know & trust, & it will be easier for me to drive South, where I have family & friends I can stay with for winter. I know lots of people are struggling right now & don't have money to give; so I humbly ask for any help that you can give to me & my kitties in our current time of great need. Every penny will help me at this time. I've lived in poverty & accepted my lot in life for over 20 years, but my current situation is scary. If I can get my kitties into safe spaces & myself to a safe living place, before winter freezes the water hoses here, I will be forever grateful to anyone who has been able to help me. Thank you. ❤️
