Hello! My name is Megan and my mother is Kathie. My mom has end stage COPD, which requires her to be on oxygen 24/7. She hasn’t been able to leave the house much over the last year, as even cleaning or cooking is a “breathless event.” While she is a proud woman and would never ask for help, she needs it and I will do anything for this amazing woman.
Kathie has been accepted to UCSF as a lung transplant candidate. While this is both exciting and a little scary, once she is selected to receive new lungs and under go surgery, she has to stay within 30 minutes from UC San Francisco for a six week time frame.
I am grateful that my company and my family have supported me in my endeavor to become her caretaker during this time, but we need a substantial amount to afford to stay at a long term hotel during the post transplant timeframe.
This transplant is going to give my mom her life back. She will be able visit my home for the first time, to spend Christmas with us, to play with her dogs outside…to explore the world off of her oxygen line. It’s easy to take for granted being able to make yourself lunch or fold laundry until those freedoms are taken from you. Watching her wither away behind the walls of her home this last year has been heart breaking.
I know everyone has their own financial concerns and restraints. I appreciate your time in reading about my mom’s medical situation and if you are able to help in any way, we would be beyond thankful.
Thank you again, you are appreciated.
