Hello all!

My name is Katherine Reid, and I am a multimedia artist from Martha’s Vineyard. I have the incredible opportunity to attend an Artist Residency in France this May, where I will work on a project that has been near and dear to my heart for many years.

Since experiencing the loss of my father at a young age, I have been fascinated with grief and the grieving process. The project I’ll be working on for the residency is an exploration of how I visualize grief, memory, growth, and resilience through shape and color. Most of the work I've done recently has been commission work, portraiture, and landscape - a portion of this recent work you will find on my social media. What I intend to work toward is a series of ever larger paintings depicting a journey into the abstract, evoking the complex emotions of the grieving and growing processes through color, shape, texture, and movement. The images I’ve included are past pieces I’ve made that will inspire this new work.

Your contribution will help fund flights to and from France, the cost of tuition for this program, as well as art supplies and tools.

Additionally, I have just accepted a position as the K-6 Art Teacher at the Charter School, and hope to show my students that artistry is a life-long journey, one that is a possible avenue for their lives, and hopefully inspire them to continue creating and expressing themselves through art-making.

I am so appreciative of your generosity, and am honored to be part of such a giving community. As a token of my gratitude, I will be offering a print of the work I create during this residency to each donor. I am hoping to have multiple pieces completed by the end of this residency, so I will reach out and you may take your pick of which print you’d like, or if you’d rather a different commissioned piece.
