My name is Susana González. I'm Venezuelan, and I'm organizing this campaign to help Katherin Landazabal and her family, who live in La Guaira, Venezuela. Katherin has been my friend since we were 12 years old; more than friends, we're sisters, and I'm the godmother of her son, Eithan. I'm coordinating this fundraiser directly with the family to make sure every contribution reaches them.

On June 24th, the earthquake that struck La Guaira changed Katherin and her family's life in a matter of seconds. They managed to escape their home during the most critical moment, but they didn't come out unscathed. José, her husband, jumped from the second floor to rescue their 5-year-old son, and in doing so, fractured his heel and sustained significant spinal injuries. He went more than 18 hours without medical attention. He now needs surgery, and they're currently waiting for the swelling to go down before he can be operated on.

Katherin and José are a young, hardworking couple from La Guaira. They have a 5-year-old son, Eithan, and a baby on the way: Katherin is 7 months pregnant. For the past 12 years, José has dedicated himself to tourism and extreme sports in La Guaira, flying people over the landscape by paraglider. It's both his passion and his livelihood.

Today they're safe, but they face a long road ahead. José won't be able to work for several months while he recovers from surgery and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Katherin is focused on her medical checkups so her baby can come into the world in the best possible conditions. Our goal is to raise USD 5,000, which will be used as follows:

Funds will be managed and given directly to Katherin and José through Wester Union, I will personally send it to them to cover these specific expenses. Durante los últimos 12 años, José se ha dedicado al turismo y los deportes extremos en La Guaira, llevando a la gente a volar sobre el paisaje en parapente. Es su pasión y su sustento.

Hoy están a salvo, pero enfrentan un camino largo por delante. José no podrá trabajar durante varios meses mientras se recupera de la cirugía y la rehabilitación. Katherin, mientras tanto, está enfocada en los chequeos médicos para que su bebé llegue al mundo en las mejores condiciones posibles.
