Support Katey, Matt, and Baby on Their Healing Journey

Hi everyone! My name is Asher, Katey and I have been best friends for over a decade. Our kids are the same ages, and we’ve walked through pregnancy and motherhood together twice now. She is an incredible mother, sister, and soon to be wife. Unfortunately she has encountered some unexpected medical challenges concerning both herself and her newest addition.
April 8th Katey went into l&d having normal contractions. An hour after being admitted, her instincts told her something was wrong when she suspected her water had suddenly broken. However, Drs quickly discovered Katey had placental abruption, causing her to bleed out rapidly. In addition to her own health, her daughter’s heart rate began to plummet as her main source of oxygen was cut off. Life saving measurements were taken and she was urgently sent to the OR where she was intubated and received an emergency blood transfusion to keep her stable during the operation. After being put under general anesthesia, their daughter was delivered via emergency c-section 3 minutes later.
While Katey is a fighter herself, their daughter is now one too. At 20 weeks gestation, they received an abnormal anatomy scan indicating multiple cystic masses present on her left kidney. A follow up was done later on at Children’s National where they discovered multiple urinary tract abnormalities via MRI and ultrasound confirming she would be born with a duplex left kidney and collecting system, multicystic dysplastic kidney disease, and a ureterocele with dilated ureters. Now that she has made her way earth side, Children’s National will need to perform 3 procedures to determine kidney function and longevity, grade of her vesicoureteral reflux and create a specialized care plan going forward.
Despite it all, Katey has remained incredibly strong and resilient, advocating for her baby’s health and care. This has only just begun and it has already cost Katey and Matt thousands of dollars- on one occasion a single consultation with a specialist was $1000 out of pocket. With the newborn season already being challenging, I made this to help Katey and Matt through this expensive, stressful journey. All donations will go towards their daughters medical expenses and equipment, prescriptions, hospital stays and travel costs as they go back and forth to Children’s National. Any leftover funds will be placed in a savings account for the baby’s future medical bills, as this is going to be a lifelong uphill battle. Thankfully, babygirl has an incredible set of parents and big brother, extended family, and community who love her and will support her through it. Thank you all so much!
