Support Kate's Surgery and Recovery Journey

Hey, I'm Kate. I'm a 42 year old single mom to a 21 and 9 year old.

In June, I had a routine appointment for IUD removal, but they were not able to locate it to remove it and scheduled an ultrasound assisted removal appointment. It was during this visit they realized that I have a "gigantic" uterine fibroid (aka a benign tumor), the IUD was unremovable and scheduled another ultrasound.

At this appointment they measured and found that it is 15cm and has taken over full occupancy of my uterus. As a result, I have to have surgery to remove the fibroid and my uterus. Due to the large size of the fibroid, the easier surgeries are not possible and will require me to be on full leave from work for nearly 5 weeks and very light duty for another 4 weeks. Surgery is scheduled for 9/18/24.

While I am out, I will not be getting paid and do not have savings to utilize. I used all funds in my FSA to cover the doctor's fee and booking cost of $1300 prior to getting my date booked. In addition to the living expenses that don't stop just because I'm recovering, I will have additional medical bills from the hospital after the procedure and stay.
