Hey guys its me, Kate.

As many of you know, I work in biotech and we are constantly around dangerous equipment and materials including but not limited to hydroxides and other chemicals.

Tuesday during my shift I was sprayed in the eyes with a 1M (molar) sodium hydroxide solution measuring 13 pH due to a pressurized silicone line. Although I did have my safety glasses on, they are not goggles, and the solution went directly into my right eye, splashed across my face, and some splashed into my left eye.

My team immediately helped me over to the eye wash station we have in our suite where I flushed my eyes and I also flushed my eyes in our on site nurses shower. Because of the concentration of the chemical solution, I did go to the ER where I was for most of the night.

My ophthalmologist says I am not to return to work until fully healed, and he estimates at least three weeks.
As of right this moment things are looking ok. No corneal damage that we can see, which is good news.

Anyone who knows me knows that me setting one of these up is extremely difficult for me to accept doing. Especially because I am a "I can do it on my own" type of girl.

Because this is a workplace injury I am working with who I need to about it, however, it is not determined how long it will take for me to be able to return to work. Im going to be struggling with bills and with Christmas coming up, I'm worried about not being able to give my kids Christmas.

If you are able to help in any aspect, it will be beyond appreciated by not only myself, but the bubs as well.

Thank you guys ♡♡♡
