Hello! My name is Katelyn, and 21 years ago I was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This June, I’ll have the incredible opportunity to go back for the first time since our family returned to the U.S. in 2006! I will be traveling to Uzbekistan for a two-week service trip with a small team of students from my college. We are being sent by the English Language Institute China to teach English to college students. Students in Uzbekistan have low access to English learning, yet it is a critically advantageous skill for young adults emerging in today’s interconnected world. Our goal is to support local students in developing their English skills, building confidence, and expanding their educational and professional opportunities.

This trip is about more than teaching language. It’s about cultural exchange, building meaningful connections, and coming alongside new friends as they pursue their goals. We will be partnering with local schools, leading classroom lessons, facilitating conversation practice, and engaging with students in ways that foster both academic growth and cross-cultural understanding.

To participate in this program, I am responsible for raising $3,800, which will cover travel and program expenses. I am currently seeking financial support from friends and family who would like to invest in these students too. My hope is that those who believe in the value of this work can be participants themselves through partnering with me.
