Hello friends,
Our dear friend Kate is embarking on the process of trying to conceive while recovering from endometrial cancer.
Kate was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in July of 2024. Fortunately, the cancer was caught early before any signs of spreading, and is a low-grade non-aggressive cancer. This meant that she was given the option of fertility-sparing hormone treatment. Because of her lifelong dream of becoming a mother, she chose this treatment path.
The process has been challenging but successful so far. In the span of a year, she had 5 minor surgeries. She had two failed hormone treatment attempts throughout the fall of 2024, and then finally found one that worked at the beginning of January 2025. Kate’s treatment has successfully suppressed her cancer for now, allowing her a window of time to complete a fertility process. This is a short time window, and her last chance to try for this dream. And even though the cancer is currently being suppressed, it is likely to come back in the future. Therefore, once her fertility process is completed, she will need a hysterectomy (with the possibility of needing other ongoing treatment).
Understandably this journey has caused significant financial strain. Because she is self-employed, all missed work for surgeries, treatments, symptoms, and side effects has had a direct impact on her income. She has truly pushed through, working as hard as she can throughout this process, but simply has not been able to keep up with the costs of cancer treatment in addition to the lost income.
Becoming a parent is a lifelong dream of Kate’s, and she had already begun the process of trying to become a parent prior to her diagnosis. Recovering from cancer and embracing this moment takes courage and community. If you know Kate, you know that she is incredibly generous and wholeheartedly supportive. She holds space for her friends, family, clients (and strangers!) with the utmost presence, curiosity, respect, and compassion. This is our chance to give a portion of the love and care that she pours into us back her way.
Let’s show our love to Kate and support her as she takes on these next steps. Please give as generously as you are able. No matter the size, every bit of your support counts!
*Outlined below are what she will need to support her through possible future biopsies, fertility planning, a future hysterectomy and recovery time. Also included are the funds she would need to pay off her existing medical bills and the debt accrued due to lost income and medical costs of her cancer treatment so far.
You can also reach out to Rachel or Sadie for ideas about supporting Kate outside of / in addition to financial support.
