Support Kate and Jake's Recovery Journey

Hi!

My name is Halie Redmond, my sister Katelyn Redmond was in a serious car accident on 11/8/24. Kate was traveling with her fiancé Jake, heading to Iowa on I35. They were headed southbound in the right hand lane, in the left hand lane another driver hit a deer with his car, the deer caused the hood of his car to fly up. In turn the car in the left lane merged over in front of Jake and Kate's car and they collided.

Emergency services were called to help assist with extraction of all involved. Kate and Jake were both taken to a local hospital, and once they arrived at the hospital it was discovered Kate had severe internal injuries that needed immediate attention, Kate was flown to Rochester and immediately went into surgery. Kate has had multiple surgeries to repair all the internal damages. Jake was thankfully released from the local hospital the night of the accident with injuries as well.

Jake and Kate have both been out of work, Jake plans on returning but going from a two income household to a one can be quite stressful. That's the purpose of this, to help provide relief to Jake and Kate, to help allow them to both recover and an allowance for travel to family as most of them are still in the Mankato area, while Kate remains in Rochester.

Kate will remain in Rochester to undergo intensive spinal cord physical therapy for the foreseeable future. In the chaos of the accident her right foot lost blood flow, rendering it unstable, so she is continuing to work to re-learning how to walk and stand again. Due to a burst fracture in her spinal column, she also underwent a spinal fusion, when they had noticed her spinal cord had damage as well, hence the spinal cord physical therapy.

I've talked to both Jake and Kate about their monthly bills and expenses to try and reduce as much stress for them as possible. To allow both physical and emotional time for healing for both.

If you know either Jake or Kate, you know they are both amazingly kind people. Jake is an amazing father, working to make ends meet with the loss of an income. Kate is a wonderful bonus mom, auntie, sister, niece, and cousin to all her family. They love each other and their families very much, I couldn't think of a more deserving couple.

This car accident has been traumatizing in many ways to not only Kate and Jake, but all of their loved ones, friends and family. After the CaringBridge was posted immediately I had messages and calls asking for ways they can help. Kates got an amazing team in Rochester that are doing their part, now let's all rally together to help her even more.
