Standing With Katarina

If you know Katarina Carlson, you know someone who pours her heart into serving others.

Whether it’s supporting youth through livestock programs, working long hours with her family at Swede Farm, or bringing people together through her business as the Texas Cheese Diva, Katarina is the kind of person who shows up for people again and again.

Now it’s our turn to show up for her.

An Unexpected Diagnosis

Just days ago, Katarina was admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe symptoms and fluid around her lungs. Doctors discovered multiple masses and quickly began testing.

Katarina was admitted to MD Anderson Cancer Center, where doctors began searching for answers. After numerous scans, procedures, and a biopsy, she received life-changing news—at only 37 years old, she has been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer that has already spread. She is now facing an intense treatment journey of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, with surgery planned as the next step in her fight.

This has all happened incredibly fast.

A Difficult Time for the Carlson Family

Just last month, Katarina made a big leap of faith.

She had recently left her job as a vendor to H-E-B to focus full time on growing her work as the Texas Cheese Diva and supporting her family’s farm business.

She was excited about the future and the opportunities ahead.

Then, only days later, this diagnosis came.

Because she had just transitioned from her job, her insurance had ended. Thankfully she is able to continue coverage through COBRA, but it comes with a very high monthly cost. At the same time, Katarina is now unable to work while she undergoes testing and prepares for treatment.

Adding to the challenge, this diagnosis came during Rodeo season, normally one of her busiest times of the year. Katarina had to cancel many orders and commitments, while her family has stepped in to carry the workload she normally shoulders.

A Woman of Faith and Community

Throughout this difficult journey, Katarina has remained incredibly open about the role her faith and community are playing in helping her through.

In her own words:

“Knowing I have my village around me, and that I’m in the Lord’s hands, is what is helping me process all of this.”

The prayers, calls, messages, and visits have meant the world to her.
