My name is Kassandra. I am a disabled, Puerto Rican trans woman, and the daughter of a disabled Marine Corps veteran. I have a passion for science and a love of storytelling.
For my whole life I had planned to carve out a quiet life for myself in the United States despite spending my life since 8 years old suffering with my mental health (Tourette's Syndrome, Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Insomnia), chronic pain (chronic Migraines, Crohn's Disease, GERD, Asthma), becoming a pincushion in hospitals, and a revolving door of medications that suppress my immune system on top of my already impaired function.
But now I need to leave for my safety, and my survival.
Because of continuous sweeping action by the Trump Administration, I live every day in fear of having my fundamental rights to free expression, privacy, and even due process violated by a regime whose leader has been clear in the midst of a campaign of ethnically-centered, rushed deportations to a foreign prison-camp: "The home-growns are next."
Because of the GOP's controll of Congress, social safety nets I and my family rely on for housing and vital healthcare (Social Security, Medicaid) are being cut and will continue to be.
If I am ever incarcerated for being myself (laws that would are already in progress in many states!) I would be sent to a men's prison, where instances of rape and extension of sentencing to facilitate further rape against trans women is chillingly high.
I have lost a future in the United States.
I need your help to guarantee my safety. Please, even a little can go a long way.
