Help Kason Beachem Fight for His Life
My name is Benjamin Morgan. I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Kenneth and Keona Beachem and their son, Kason.
Kenneth and I served together in the Army and were neighbors at Fort Hood. Our families grew close during those years — not just as neighbors, but as friends who became like family. Even after moving to different places, the Beachems and my family have stayed in close contact throughout the years. I have watched Kason grow up. I know the strength of this family. And right now, they need us.
On December 23rd, what seemed like a routine sickle cell pain crisis for Kason turned into a life-threatening emergency.
By Christmas Eve, Kason was in septic shock and fighting for his life.
Doctors discovered that salmonella had entered his gastrointestinal tract, moved into his bloodstream, and then spread into his bone. Because Kason lives with sickle cell disease, his body was far more vulnerable to infection. What might have been manageable for someone else became catastrophic for him.
Within days, Kason endured:
Kidney failure
Liver failure
Spleen failure
A pulmonary embolism in his lungs
Septic shock requiring life support
Kenneth and Keona stood at his bedside as machines kept their son alive.
He was later airlifted to a higher-level hospital in Bangkok to receive advanced care. Since then, Kason has undergone two major surgeries. The infection weakened his femur so severely that it fractured, requiring surgeons to insert three screws to stabilize his leg.
Kason has not walked since December 23rd.
Doctors say he will not be able to bear full weight or walk unassisted for at least eight months. A long road of rehabilitation and physical therapy lies ahead.
While hospitalized, he also contracted another infection, setting his recovery back even further.
But beyond the physical trauma, there is another battle happening quietly.
Kason is struggling emotionally. Months in a hospital bed. Multiple procedures. Losing his independence. Facing setbacks after setbacks. He is battling depression. He is mentally and emotionally exhausted.
Kenneth and Keona have not left his side. They are pouring every ounce of strength into their son. But the weight of this situation is overwhelming.
Their insurance coverage has reached its cap. The ICU stay, air transport, life support, surgeries, medications, extended hospitalization, and upcoming rehabilitation have created crushing financial strain. The bills continue to come, and they are struggling to keep up with everything.
No family should have to fight for their child’s life and fight financial devastation at the same time.
This is why I am asking for help.
Every donation will go toward:
Mounting medical and surgical expenses
Ongoing infection treatment
Physical therapy and rehabilitation
Mental health support for Kason
Travel, lodging, and daily expenses during this prolonged crisis
If you know Kenneth, you know he is a man of strength and integrity. If you know Keona, you know the love she pours into her family. They would never ask for help lightly.
But right now, they need their community.
Kason survived septic shock. He survived organ failure. He survived life support.
Now he faces the long journey of learning to walk again.
Please give if you are able.
Please share if you cannot give.
Please pray for Kason’s healing.
Let’s help this family carry the burden — and help Kason take his first steps again.
