Hi, my name is Kasey Leon. I am a 22 year old student at USF in Tampa, but I live in Kissimmee. I’m currently majoring in sign language interpreting to provide services for the deaf and provide them language access in any and all areas of their life. I just transferred over this semester, but I am an excellent student with good grades and have been able to keep up with my studies as rigorous as the program is. I was commuting to USF for class on April 16th 2024 when I was involved in a head-on collision. I lost control of my vehicle and collided with a school bus where I was stuck in the driver’s cabin until fire fighters were able to cut me out of the car and was airlifted to the hospital. This was a very scary experience. I have now begun my recovery process and I’m undergoing surgeries as well as therapy to get back on my feet and get my mobility back in my legs and my arms once again. I suffered over 15 fractures in both my arms, my legs and hip I have gotten 5 surgeries to repair all my fractures. My family and I started facing a financial distress and doctors foresee additional financial needs due to the long rehabilitation process ahead of me. I still remain in the hospital, soon to continue rehab at home. My main goal is to regain my mobility so that I can return back to improving my signing skills and move forward towards my career in which I was set to graduate in 2025. My family and I would greatly appreciate any and all help that can be offered during this difficult time. I’m not sure if I would be able to make it through this process without the support system I have with my family and friends in the community so please if any help can be given to my family to help me reach my goals it would be greatly appreciated so that I can get back into the community and start working towards my goals and passion once again.
