Yesterday, our family received news that changed everything: Karyn Jeanne Alley, my daughter-in-law, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. The shock and heartbreak have been overwhelming, and Karyn has been in the hospital for several weeks now, undergoing intensive chemotherapy. The treatments have taken a toll—her hair has started to fall out, and she is sick most days. Despite the pain and uncertainty, Karyn remains strong and hopeful, determined to fight this disease with everything she has.
Her journey is far from over. Even after she leaves the hospital, Karyn will need to travel to Stanford hospital multiple times a week for ongoing chemotherapy and tests. The doctors have explained that recovery will take six months to a year, and there is a risk that the leukemia could return within the first couple of years. Karyn will also need a bone marrow transplant, which means another month in the hospital and more rounds of chemotherapy. Throughout this process, her immune system will be severely compromised, making everyday life much more challenging.
To help Karyn stay safe at home, the hospital has recommended purchasing air purifiers and special cleaning products. The cost of these items, along with medical bills, gas for frequent trips to Stanford, and other living expenses, is quickly adding up. We are reaching out to friends, family, and anyone who has been touched by Karyn's kindness and creativity. Your support—whether through donations, encouragement, or positive thoughts—will make a real difference as she faces this difficult journey. Thank you for standing with Karyn and our family during this time.
