For those of you that know Karter, you know he has already endured more in his short life than any child should have to. On top of that, Karter was recently diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic Leukemia. This is a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear, but for a teenager going into their senior year of high school, it is so much more difficult.

Last Sunday 07/19 Karter showed me some lumps on his neck and back and chest. I called his primary care Monday and scheduled the soonest appointment for 07/27. Labs were drawn at the appointment, less than 12 hours later the on call provider had called and told me to immediately get Karter to the emergency room, his white blood cell count was critical. They admitted us immediately and began running tests. After a couple hours we were informed it was most likely some kind of cancer and we were being transported to the children’s hospital in Omaha. Karter spend 2 nights in the PICU and was officially diagnosed with b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. A devastating diagnosis for anyone, especially a young man who has already endured more pain than most grown adults. A young man who loves to fish and hang with friends and tinker on small engines. A young man starting his senior year of high school attending the welders program through The Career academy.

The first month will be the hardest, following will be 10 months of intensive chemotherapy. The whole treatment process last around 3 years. 3 years of chemo, spinal taps, bone marrow testing, blood draws, hair loss and heart ache and much more for our boy. Since his admission things have shown improvement which we are all overjoyed to see. But the road to recovery will be long and hard. Please continue to keep Karter in your thoughts and prayers. This journey will be very costly—not only from a medical perspective, but also with the gas and vehicle wear from driving to Omaha consistently, meals, and other expenses.
