Support Karrie's Recovery Journey

Donation protected

On December 21st, Karrie suffered a cardiac arrest while at work. Life-saving measures were implemented (AED and CPR administered by a coworker) and he was transported to UTSW's Cardiovascular ICU unit.
Once there, he continued to have multiple cardiac arrests due to ventricular tachycardia. He was ultimately placed on a ventilator and life support (ECMO).

That same day, Karrie’s wife, Sierra, and their young son, Ollie, experienced a trauma of their own. Receiving the call that your loved one’s life is on the line is a nightmare no one is ever prepared for. In an instant, their world changed forever.

If you’ve ever had a loved one in the ICU, you understand the immense emotional, physical, and financial toll it takes on both the patient and their family. If you haven’t, here’s a glimpse of what lies ahead for the Butlers.
Karrie’s sole focus will be on his health and recovery. He won’t be able to work or assist with managing the household for the foreseeable future. After his release from the hospital, he will face an overwhelming schedule of appointments, tests, physical therapy, surgeries, and more.

Meanwhile, Sierra will bear an enormous burden. She will be praying for the next miracle, navigating complex medical decisions, providing Karrie with the emotional support he needs to keep fighting, caring for Ollie’s physical and emotional well-being, and staying connected to their community for meals, prayers, and support—all while managing her own fears during the most challenging time of her life.

The reality is that neither Karrie nor Sierra will be able to return to work anytime soon or in a full-time capacity. This is where we—their friends, family, and community—can step in. Together, we can help alleviate the financial burden so they can focus entirely on healing and recovery.

Sierra should not have to face an impossible choice, like leaving Karrie’s side before surgery to attend a meeting or being at work if Karrie has another heart attack. By coming together, we can create a financial cushion for the Butler family, giving them the time and space to heal without the added stress of financial strain.

The more we unite in support, the more the Butlers can focus on what truly matters: Karrie’s recovery and their family’s well-being.

Thank you for being a part of Karrie’s story and for offering your love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Let’s join forces to lighten their load and ensure they have the necessary resources to move forward.
