On September 24th at approximately 1am, we received a call from my sister’s (Karolina) neighbor that her house was on fire. Her husband, Porfirio, was at work during the incident. The two older boys, Angel (12 y/o) and Alex (11 y/o), woke up to smoke and flames. They quickly got up to see their living room couch on fire. They were able to get out of the house through the back kitchen door, running out to the front of the house screaming for their mom. Karolina wakes up to pitch black smoke, not being able to leave the room or see much of anything. She opens her big bedroom window and was only able to see her one-year-old's head due to his head movement from waking up. She climbs out the window with her son in hand, screaming for her daughter Aleksa (6 y/o), who was in the same room as her, and the other boys who were on the other side of the house, not knowing the boys had made it out. One of her neighbors quickly grabbed Aleksa from the bedroom window , rescuing Aleksa, while his wife clothed Karolina and her children.

We are fundraising to help Karolina and her family rebuild their lives after this devastating fire. They have lost their home and belongings, and they need immediate support to get back on their feet.
