This is Karol Lopez, also know as @laprofekarol. As a dedicated Dual Language teacher in Buncombe County, Karol has spent her career building bridges between cultures and languages, nurturing her students with the same warmth and vibrance she brings to every part of her life.

Karol was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The news has come as a shock to her family, her school community, and all who love her. To beat this, Karol must immediately begin an intensive journey of chemotherapy.

While Karol is a fighter, the financial burden of cancer treatment is overwhelming. Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket costs for life-saving procedures, specialized treatments, and recovery time away from the classroom add up quickly.

As an international teacher from Colombia, Karol is far from her extended family. We want to ensure that her only focus is on healing—not on how she will pay for her next round of treatment or her monthly bills while she is unable to work.
