I teach visual and performing arts in South Central Los Angeles. I believe that art creates hope for the world and the community.
Over the past three years, I've had the pleasure of guiding Karol and Koral Macias: identical twin girls, living in poverty, classified as homeless, both learning disabled. Even though the girls struggle to express themselves with words, both sisters are insanely talented visual artists. After three years of portfolio building and so much time after school, these ladies managed to get accepted to a private art college: Otis School of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California. Tuition is $80,000 a year, but we've almost covered all of the cost, except for $5,500 per year. The girls are scared to take out loans, but I promised them that I would try to raise them at least $500 to cover their mandatory Otis art kit for this year and to buy them bed sheets for their dorm.
This little bit of financial support will motivate the girls to continue their journey, breaking through the sphere of fear that the girls currently feel. I ask that you consider this as an opportunity to support hope for our country. On my social media, I will post the girls' art throughout July. Please share their astounding work and this link with your friends to inspire generosity and creativity. These girls have an incredible story, and the world needs their art. Any money that goes above the $500 goal will be used to pay back their student loans for this academic year, totaling $11,000. Thank you so much for sharing!
