Sweet Beckham and His Parents

UPDATE: Now using this as a go fund me for Beckham as well and somewhere to post updates on Beck.

update: Beck is doing great! He is eating as much as he wants. He is pretty puked though but it seems to be more from how much he is eating now. Beck pooped a good breast milk poop today! He is still on room air and is rocking it. Plan is to get a repeat echo tomorrow because he has a heart murmur (from a large PDA and a PFO or VSD, not sure which one hint the need for a repeat echo tomorrow). The plan is to ship him home as soon as they can. He will need a MRI either tomorrow or when he gets home to see if there is a need to keep Beck on antibiotics longer which would be 21 days instead of 14 days. They want to make sure the infection didn’t spread to his spinal cord and brain. Please also be praying for Becks blood sugars. They were low all day yesterday when they were trying to decrease his IV fluids. Today they are much better and are back to being able to decrease his IV fluids again. Also pray for Karly and Tim. They are now alone in St Louis with Beck and will have to drive back by themselves.

update: The doctors rounded this morning and there was some really good news! Becks bowel gases look beautiful this morning on X-ray so they are letting him eat as much as he wants. Beck is SO excited about this since he kept Tim up all night wanting more food. Next they are taking out his IV today so Karly and Tim get to dress Beck for the first time since being admitted to the NICU! Thank you once again for all the prayers!!

update: Beckham is doing great with his bottle feeding. They increase his amount from 3mls to 5mls. He is still on room air and rocking it as well. The NP told Karly today that it’s a possibility they can send him back to Cox South NICU if his intestines continue to look like they are doing what they are supposed to. The infectious doctor also came to see Karly tonight and said he wants to extend Beckhams antibiotics from 10 to 14 days due to his lumbar puncture having blood in it. This means that the ecoli could have spread to his spinal cavity so keeping him on antibiotics longer helps ensure the infection is gone.

update: The doctors rounded this morning and the plan is to take Beck off oxygen, start bottle feeding, and increase his IV fluids since he is finally peeing well! So many praises! He has to have 10 days of antibiotics for the ecoli in his blood which would be through Wednesday. If he is eating good and off oxygen at that time he will be able to come home! The doctors think that his intestines are just very sleepy from the infection but do not suspect anything is wrong with them. Please pray that Beck will tolerate the bottle feeding and digest his food!

Beck and his parents along with Shelly Baker made it to St Louis safely! Beck had a platelet transfusion today because his levels were very low. They rechecked those levels and they were much better. They also changed Beckham to a nasal cannula instead of the CPAP that he had in Springfield. He is doing really well with that. St Louis has him on only one antibiotic for now. He is still not able to have any milk while they are letting his intestines rest. That is all we know for now! Hopefully St Louis will come up with a game plan in the morning to get Beck home.
Help Karly and Tim with bills while Karly is hospitalized until Baby boys arrival. Karly was diagnosed with borderline severe preeclampsia at 33 weeks. She was admitted to labor and delivery and will be staying indefinitely until baby boys arrival hopefully after 37 weeks which is Friday. We thank everyone that has brought them food, given them company, and helped take care of their animals during this time. It truly means so much. Please pray for a safe arrival for baby boy and a healthy momma!
