Help Karley Fight Leukemia and Stay Strong Through this Difficult Journey

Life changed in an instant for our family when our sweet Karley Starr - a beautiful, kind, and caring teenage girl - was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

The good news: Her doctors are optimistic about her recovery.

The hard truth: Treatment will be long and intense, lasting 2½ years.

Last week, Karley, along with her mom, Trista; her dad, Shaun; and her two older sisters, Bailey and Riley, spent time at Riley Hospital - the place where this life-changing journey really began. During her visit, she underwent many tests, including a bone marrow biopsy, a spinal tap, and had an Implantable Venous Access Port (IVAP) placed - all in one day.

She began chemotherapy immediately, marking the start of an entirely different way of life - for now. With her immune system now severely compromised, even a low-grade fever can become life-threatening. She’ll need someone with her 24/7 to ensure she can get to the hospital at the first sign of infection. She will also face difficult side effects, including hair loss and serious illness.

This journey means Karley will miss many of the milestones most teenagers look forward to — celebrating her 16th birthday on October 27th, attending semi-formal, returning to school, and simply enjoying time with her friends and family.

But through it all, Karley remains determined to stay positive, stay strong, and continue to shine.

Our family is committed to walking this road with her - but we can’t do it alone. Even with insurance, the cost of treatment, hospital stays, medications, and lost income is overwhelming.
