This is my father, Karl Pommells. He is "grandpa" to my children and we all love him very much. Shortly after a terrible accident in March of 2021 where he almost lost his foot, he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma that August. If you have never heard of this terrible form of cancer, it's different from other types. There are no tumors; instead, it's a cancer that affects the bone marrow, so over time your bones become weakened by lesions that make them very easy to break. So far, he has had a broken clavicle, ribs, and recently his femur, which has made walking painful and difficult. The number of cancerous cells in the blood has increased.
There is a new drug that has been added to his treatment that can help attack these cells. We want to keep the numbers low so that the symptoms of the cancer can be better managed. The monthly cost of this medicine alone is approximately US$6250 per treatment (and he needs this every other week).
There are other medicines that work along with it, plus the cost of administering the medicines, doctor's fees, etc., all adds up monthly. Insurance has been helping to offset the costs, but some insurance have currently run out and there are limits to these.
We are seeking the help of family, friends, and the human community to pool together to help us fight this disease.
