My name is Karim Ullah, and I am originally from Myanmar. I belong to the Rohingya community, a group that has faced severe persecution in our homeland. When I was just 13 years old, my family and I were forced to flee Myanmar because of the brutal violence and genocide carried out by the military. We had to leave everything behind—our home, our belongings, and the life we once knew—in order to survive.

Coming to the United States gave me safety, dignity, and a second chance at life. However, starting over in a completely new country was not easy. I had to learn a new language, adapt to a new culture, and navigate an unfamiliar education system while rebuilding my life from nothing. Despite these challenges, I remained determined to pursue my education and create a better future.

Today, I am proud to share that I am the first person from my entire village to attend college. I am currently completing my Associate Degree in Liberal Arts at Aims Community College, and I plan to transfer to University of Northern Colorado to pursue a degree in Political Science with a Pre-Law focus.

My long-term goal is to attend law school and become a lawyer so I can advocate for justice and help vulnerable communities like my own. I want to use my education to stand up for those whose voices are often unheard.

Unfortunately, financial challenges make continuing my education difficult. I come from a family with limited resources, and I also help support my family while trying to pursue my studies. The costs of tuition, books, and basic living expenses continue to be significant obstacles.
